"You're such a loner." Iden muttered. "So?" I rolled my eyes, walking off to the kitchen to make some coffee. "Ok, listen, my girl really wants a double date with one of my friends, and I can't stand Aidens girlfriend, she's such a bitch, and Kieran's boyfriend is so camp it's unbelievable, what if, I find you a girl and you come on a date with us? Please? I know someone perfect for you, and she's not annoying." He said, looking up from his phone and smirking. "Fine, but if I hate her, you can just put up with Kieran and Milo." I said, passing him a cup and sitting down. "Yea, yea." He sighed.
I sat down, sliding my gloves off my fingers and sticking them in my pocket. It was a frosty December morning, I was meeting a girl that Iden set me up with. Her name was Alyssa, such a pretty name I thought to myself. I sat down by the fountain, looking down at my phone to check the time as she came up to me. "Uh, hello? Ryder, right?" She said, smiling at me. "Yea, you must be Alyssa." I said, smiling back. She looked so pretty in person, so innocent. "I thought because it's cold out, you'd like to go the movies maybe?" I said, standing up. "Sure, what movie did you have in mind?" Her eyes lit up and that was the first time I noticed them, I took her hand and smiled. "It's a surprise." And off we went.
It sounds like a normal movie date, and it was. I had no fucking idea how much of a monster she was... All I could think about was how beautiful she was, how sweet she seemed. All I could think about was how amazing she was. If I had known, I would've ignored her calls, blocked her number, ignored her in the streets, but I didn't know, how could I?
It had been 7 months, we'd moved in with each other, and that's when it all changed, her mood, her attitude. "Sweetheart, are you okay?" I said one morning when she was washing up after breakfast, and just like that, she snapped, "No, you don't fucking do anything around here!" She screamed. "What...?" I said, taken aback. "You don't help me, you just sit around and make mess, expecting me to clean it up." Her voice was angry, but there was something else behind it. "I'll go clean the bathroom if you want baby..." I said, getting up. "No! You'll just fuck it up!" She screamed, and a plate went flying past my head. The sound of that plate smashing against the wall is indented in my memory, the fear, the shock I felt. That was when the shit show began. "Woah!" I shouted, stepping back. She turned around and stomped towards me and I was frozen to the spot. This woman that I loved, this woman who was the sweetest thing in the world, my favorite person ever... Bam. A smack across the face. She stepped back and glared at me. "Oh..." Was all I could say to her, I felt the heat rising to the mark on my cheek and I looked down at her. I don't know what I expected, an apology? An apologetic look at least? Tears? Whatever I expected, I was greeted with the exact opposite. "Get the fuck out, just, get out of here." She said in a dark tone. "Ok..." And with that, I left the kitchen and went outside, leaning against the wall and looking up and the sky.
I still remember all three of those days, but I still can't decide what one was the beginning of the past few years...
